Collective individuality

The world revolves around the individual. We’ve known that for a day or 2. But it really shows everywhere now: Gender neutrality, because we don’t want to think in boxes. Decide for yourself how thick your sandwiches are cut at the bakery, because we all want to be unique while eating bread. That is precisely why we came up with the Solida Xtreme Choice program: floors where you determine how they will look. Just like with a worldwide known sandwich shop, you decide how you put the building blocks of, in this case your floor, together. Our 7 step-by-step plan will help you create your own unique floor (or wall).

Why limit yourself to the limited collections of laminate or vinyl when you have the unlimited possibilities of a cork floor? Above that cork is also the environmentally conscious choice. The sustainable alternative to vinyl!

Just a simple calculation…… ( in reality there are even more possibilities, but we don’t want to scare you right of the start 😉 )

unique floors

This is how you do it: With a simple step-by-step plan you can make your own floor (or wall):

Eirst you choose the pattern / decor / grain / print or whatever you want to call the design on the cork tile. There is something for everyone: grains, blocks, stripes, garlangs and wattles.

Some decors give a direction to the tile and some do not. Take a look at “Products” and let us know which one you like (here are a few examples).

Then you determine the size / design of the tile.

Most tiles have a basic size of 600x300mm, but we can cut them for you in other sizes. For example 600×150 or 300×300 or 300×200 or….
Keep in mind that the tiles will always be slightly smaller than the ideas just given, because the thickness of the saw blade also eats a few mm of the tile.

If you want larger tiles or exactly 300×300, then we take the basic cork sheet as a starting point (the semi-finished product from which they cut the 600×300 tiles in Portugal). These basic sheets are oversized 900x600mm sheets, from which we can cut tile sizes of 600×450 or 900×200 or 900×600 or….

A cork tile always has a straight / square edged edge. If it is properly laid in the floor, you can hardly see where one tile stops and the next one begins. So if you are going for different sizes than the standard 600×300, it is wise to accentuate the tile size by adding a bevelled edge.

Even here you can decide for yourself whether this has to be done on 2 sides of the tile (often used with slats) or on all 4 sides (tiles). But what about 2 long sides and 1 short side? This would give the optic of a tile that is 2x the lenght it actually is.

You can also specify whether we should make you a large or small V-groove in the floor. And whether you want it bevelled at an angle of 30 or (the most common:) 45 degrees.

This is bevelling to the extreme: Stain the tile first, bevel afterwards. If not beautiful at least the bevels are visible.

Cork is brown. Period. Just like Oak is … ehh. Oak.

But if you think there are many ways to colour oil Oak, then be surprised to know what you can do with cork and colour.

Beken kleur!

Cork is stained. And we mix that stain ourselves. So you just tell us in which color you want your floor. Of course we do have a number of suggestions, but don’t hesitate to use all the freedom in colour there is to impose your own identity. Confess color!

The individualization of your floor is almost ready.

The floor needs protection. Cork is beautiful, warm, sound-absorbing, flexible, but not very durable. So if you want to enjoy your own creation for many years (and that is what you want, right?), a wearing layer will have to be applied: varnish!

However: there are people that likea shiny floor and people that don’t. That is why we have a variety of gloss levels and qualities to choose from. From very matte to high gloss. The trend is matte, but we’ll be the last to say you need to be a trend follower. We think your own choice is much more important.

We’re almost there, your floor is almost ready.

We just want to know from you which glue we should supply. It has to do with the type of surface, etc. A bit technical, sorry. Don’t dwell on it for too long. The shopkeeper will help you out.

The End!

Although…: We know flooring wholesale companies that do not supply skirting boards with their floors. We find that a bit strange. A beautiful cork floor needs a beautiful cork wallbase, right??

So one last question: Which skirting board do you think fits your floor best?

We also have a wide choice of options there, and the skirting boards, just like the floor tiles, are in stock unfinished. Because in that case we can paint them in the color of the floor. Or a completely different color. Your choice.

What a little paint can’t do for appearance and personification. How would you like us to paint the Lusitania for you?
